The 45th International Film Festival Of India 2014 was opened by Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley.
Mr. Bachchan, the chief guest of the event, gave an extensive speech on the evolution of Indian cinema, saying it always played an important role in national integration.
“If popular perception is any indicator, then the major part of social transformation in India can be attributed to cinema’s potentially reformist character. If the world is a village, we are the custodians of its stories. If we don’t know the stories of our forefathers, we cannot write the story of today.” stated Amitabh Bachchan in his speech.
Rajinikanth was conferred with the Centenary Award at the International Film Festival Of India 2014 for the Indian Film Personality Of The Year.
Rajinikanth went on a trip down memory lane when an audio-visual presentation of his work was shown at the ceremony.
“I actually came to receive this award but not to make a speech and that too after Amitji’s excellent speech. I have no words to speak. I am honoured to receive this award from the government of India and my heartful thanks to the nation. I dedicate this award to all my film producers, directors and fans.” stated an emotional Rajinikanth. He touched Mr. Bachchan’s feet and addressed him as his big brother.
